I have lived in Newark since 1968.
Over the years, one thing has not changed. The Lake and Rosemont areas are still the most desirable neighborhoods to live in the City of Newark. Where else can you live and have a beautiful lake so close to home? Our neighborhood consists of approximately 1250 households, many with original owners. Because of high home prices, even in a down market, the Lake Area and Rosemont are usually not a first time homebuyer’s place to live.
As you know, last November, Measure L was defeated at the ballot box. This measure would have only cost the average residence $12.00 a month for a maximum of 6 years. With the defeat of Measure L, the City of Newark has had to lay off city employees from all departments including park maintenance, police, a restructuring of our fire department, and so much more.
In this most challenging time, it is more important now more than ever, that we the owners and families of the Lake Area and Rosemont, step up and do our part to save The Lake and our neighborhood from deterioration due to lack of maintenance and care! As a homeowner, and Realtor, I strongly encourage all of you to please do your part in helping out! The effort that we give as a community today will play a vital role in helping us come out of this economic depression faster, while at the same time, it will aid in our goal for home price appreciation!
The small things that we do to maintain our own properties will help in the recovery process as well. Did you know that if your home is located next to Edgewater Drive or any other main thoroughfare, you as the homeowner are responsible for the maintenance of that curbside area? We are all responsible for maintaining our own curbside landscape. Whether you know it or not, if your property abuts to a main street and you do share that curbside, you have been given an allowance for water to maintain that area by the City of Newark so please, do your part! Like all areas, the Lake and Rosemont are not immune to foreclosures. That too, compounds the problems we are facing today.
In the months to come, the Lake Area and Rosemont Residents Association will be staging community workdays. One of our goals as it is written in our mission statement is to promote neighborhood beautification. With your help, we hope to have a good showing of participation. It is not what one group of people can do; it is what a whole community can do to make a difference!
Please take part in this community service and pay your dues to the Lake Area and Rosemont Residents Association. It is a small price to pay for the opportunity to live in the best neighborhood!
Sincerely,
Tom Cree, President
